It is quite difficult to make scripts that works on all distribution,
even if we restrain to POSIX requirements. On bash environment setup,
there is a defined precedence, but each solution doesn't suit some
users. It was a choice to add hooks in the .profile assuming it is
sourced in the .bashrc [1]. Discussion about it are in [2] and [3].

This message is in the opam code. Generally, you can report opam related
issue in the bug tracker [4], install matters too.
