I hope you realize this still doesn't solve the initial problem I mentioned (and is rather painful to work with as a developer). I'm afraid if system packagers would like their systems to be used for development they will need to focus quite a bit more on the developer user experience and interoperability. I'd be glad to see this happening but I'm afraid it's not.
