Interestingly, vrms does not list it as a non-free package. If it is not free, it has a buggy section ('doc' instead of 'non-free/doc'). [...] Are you aware of <http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-pkgcopyright> (Section 2.1) that say what does `free' mean in the Debian world ? Because it fails many points of the DFSG, in particular, you have no right to modify it. That is how the authors want it, and so we can only distribute it in non-free, which is okay (altough i guess other documentation in debian also have this same problem and shouldbe moved out of main into non-free, i have not checked though). Also, anyway, we don't have the original source of the libs, only the produced stuff, so this is another point making it non-free. There are other stuff that are in the ocaml-doc package, or could be, that are non-free also, like the examples and other such. > Interestingly, vrms does not list it as a non-free package. What is vrms ? Anyway, much discution went into the move of ocaml-doc from main to non-free, you can look at the archives of debian-ocaml-maint@lists.debian.org to get an idea of some of them. It seems that the section of ocaml-doc is buggy: it should be non-free/doc instead of doc. -=-=-=-=-=-= chinon:~$ dpkg -s ocaml-doc Package: ocaml-doc Status: install ok installed Priority: optional Section: doc Installed-Size: 9212 Maintainer: Vanicat Rémi <vanicat@labri.fr> Version: 3.06-1 Suggests: ocaml Description: Documentation for Objective Caml and Camlp4 This package contains documentation for Objective Caml in html, info, dvi, pdf, ps and plain text format as well as documentation and a tutorial for Camlp4 in html, dvi and ps format. -=-=-=-=-=-= There may be an override somewhere. Even "vrms" on my machines list it as a non-free package. Perhaps you have installed an old version? (IIRC sometimes ago ocaml-doc was created from the ocaml package and was in "doc" section ..., but I'm not sure). Cheers. -- Stefano Zacchiroli - undergraduate student of CS @ Univ.
