see the manual, 6.1 Lexical conventions

infix-symbol  ::= (= | < | > | @ | ^ | | | & | + | - | * | / | $ | %) { operator-char }
prefix-symbol ::= (! | ? | ~) { operator-char }
operator-char ::= ! | $ | % | & | * | + | - | . | / | : | < | = | > | ? | @ | ^ | | | ~ 

i.e., the first char determines the arity, and then you can freely
append random letters.
