Has anyone done any OCaml benchmarks on x86/AMD64 and PPC? I'd like to know
how PPC compares specifically on OCaml programs.
I assume Intel-based Macs are equivalent to Intel-based PCs.

It does pretty well. I had done some tests some time ago, using a lambda
calculus interpreter calculating the fibonacci numbers reducing lambda
expressions, and i was very agreeably surprised comparing a G4 cpu to and AMD
box. I don't remember the details though. Mmm, it is well possible that it was
still with 240Mhz 603e cpu even, compared to a 600-700 AMD box.
The same goes for building the debian ocaml powerpc package, compared to
building it on a x86 box.

Probably yes, provided you compare ones with similar cpus.

I have not done Benchmarks on PPC, but I use OCaml on a PPC-machine and it's
quite fast.
I normally use bytecode, and for most things this is fast enough. :)
If you have a ready-to-run benchmark sources, you can send them
me and I can let it run here.
I have a 400 MHz Powerbook (G4 processor), running OS-X 10.3.9
Ciao,
Oliver
