Subject: MMM, a Web browser with applets in Caml (release 0.30beta)
Date: Tue, 09 Apr 1996 11:01:00 +0200	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <199604090901.LAA03419@fronsac.inria.fr> (raw)

It is my pleasure to announce a new release of the MMM Web browser
(0.30beta).

MMM is a free WWW browser written in Caml Special Light, using Tcl/Tk for
the user interface.

This is mostly a bug fix release, although some new features have been added
(more HTTP support, XMP and LISTING HTML elements, revised user-interface,
capability system for applet libraries,...).

The main characterics of MMM as a Web browser are:
  * supports HTML2.0 level 2 (including forms)
  * multi-window, asynchronous
  * applets in Caml Special Light
  Applets are CSL bytecode files, stored on a web server, retrieved by
  the browser and dynamically linked into the browser.
  Applets bring a new dimension to the Web: documents can now be made
  active.

The license is now somewhat more permissive, especially concerning
distribution of derived work.

For more informations: <URL:http://pauillac.inria.fr/~rouaix/mmm/>
The distribution is at
<URL:ftp://ftp.inria.fr/INRIA/Projects/cristal/Francois.Rouaix/mmm>
Binaries for sparcs (SunOS 4.1.x, Solaris 5.5), alphas (DEC OSF) and
i486 (linux a.out) are available, as well as complete source distribution.
MMM is known to run on various other Unix/X-Windows platforms (HPUX, SGI
IRIX, FreeBSD).

Jun Furuse made a Japanese version of MMM, called JMMM.
Information and distribution of JMMM are found at
<URL:http://wwwfun.kurims.kyoto-u.ac.jp/jmmm/>.

The MMM browser is certified free of the bovine spungiform encephalopathy.

  * traite HTML2.0 level2 (y compris les formulaires)
  * multi-fenetre, asynchrone
  * applets en Caml Special Light
