IMHO, the problem is that you install every ocaml in the same
place, in /usr/bin.
I use Debian, but I never install the ocaml packages (sorry to
admit that). Instead I install every ocaml version in its own
directory, 3.04 is in /usr/local/ocaml-3.04 and so on. The latest
version has symbolic links from /usr/local/bin. This way I never
have problems with incompatible bytecode executables.
